Borrow a Kindle!
Bergenfield residents may borrow a basic Kindle, a Kindle Fire, or a Kindle Fire HD, with bestsellers and popular books, for up to 14 days. This program is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of the Library. One iPad is also available for in-Library use by Bergenfield residents.
• How many Kindles are available ?
The Library has one basic Kindle, one Kindle Fire, and one Kindle Fire HD, all pre-loaded with recent bestsellers and popular titles. Check the Library’s Kindle Book List to see what’s available.
• Who can borrow a Kindle?
Kindles are lent to Bergenfield Library patrons age 18 and older who have a valid Library card and can show a valid photo ID, e.g. driver’s license or other government issued ID. Photo ID must match Library records.
• How do I reserve a Kindle?
Stop by or call the Reference Desk 201-387-4040 ext. 2832 to borrow a device. Kindles may be reserved up to one week in advance.
• How long are the devices available to borrow?
Kindles may be checked out on a patron’s Library card for up to 14 days. The fine for late return is $3 per day. Kindles that are not returned within 10 days of due date will be presumed lost; Library privileges will be suspended and the patron will be charged full replacement cost of the device as outlined in the Borrower Agreement.
• What kind of content is available on the Kindles?
The three Kindles come pre-loaded with popular content and bestsellers. You may also request items from eBCCLS that can be downloaded for up to 14 days if it is available. You may request a specific title which will be loaded if it is available for free; additional items may be considered for purchase as Library budget allows. You will not be able to download books using your library card or from paid services.
Do not erase any content or files on these devices. The Kindle Fire is also pre-loaded with games and useful apps. Patrons may ask Library staff to load apps prior to checkout—-if the app is available for free and appropriate for a device that will be circulated to the public—-it may be downloaded by Library staff to the Kindle Fire. Patrons are not permitted to download free or paid apps to any device.
•Where do I pick up and return the Kindle?
Go to the Reference Desk where you’ll present photo ID and your Bergenfield Public Library card, review lending procedures and sign the Borrower Agreement. You will be given a Kindle, USB charger and cover, that will be checked out on your card at the main circulation desk. Kindles must be returned in person, to a librarian at the Reference Desk. You may not place the device in the Book Return Drop or the Audio Visual Drop or any other unsecure location.
