The Junior Library Council is a service based teen volunteer group. Bergenfield residents in Grades 6-12 are welcome to enroll in the program. Open enrollment will be held from September to December and the program runs from October, 2026 through May, 2027. Council Members are required to attend monthly mandatory meetings and to complete various activities in order to earn volunteer hours and a certificate. Activities span across different areas so that members have opportunities to engage with the library and broader community.
Monthly Meetings Are Mandatory: Excused absences are granted under special circumstances. Please look ahead at your after school schedule (clubs, sports, lessons, trips, job/work schedule, doctor appointments, etc.) before committing to this group. JLC is only open to Bergenfield student residents in Grades 8-12.
How It Works: First, enroll in the program using this Enrollment Google Form or visit the link under the Young Adult tab on the library’s website and make sure to get parental/guardian consent. Next, each month register for each meeting on the library’s website calendar. Finally, if the meeting is held virtually on Google Meet and you have registered for the meeting, you will receive an email notification with the Google Meet link by 5:00 pm on the day of the meeting from Ms. Celia, the JLC Coordinator.
Special Note: Please note, for virtual meetings, registration closes by 4:00 pm on the day of the meeting. Please do not attempt to register after 4:00 pm as the virtual meeting link list will already be compiled and is scheduled to be sent. Additionally, for both in person and virtual meetings, there is a 5 minute grace period to attend a meeting – arriving after 6:05 pm is marked as absent. Finally, if you do not attend more than two meetings and you have not communicated with us about the absence, you will be withdrawn from the program.
2026 – 2027 Meeting Dates to be Determined
